Pensées

Penseés is the debut album by American composer Megan Perry Fisher.

Inspired by the encompassing environment around her, the twelve pieces that give life to Pensées were conceived in 2019 during an artist residency in Paris, France. It was here that Fisher encountered Peter Vergo’s book The Music of Painting: Music, Modernism and the Visual Arts, which would influence this project’s multidisciplinary path.

While sketching out each piece on the piano, Fisher envisioned a synesthetic collaboration with a contemporary visual artist. She admired Colleen Herman’s work from afar and soon discovered that she often uses music as a starting point for her paintings. In June of 2021, the two began a dialogue. As Fisher’s songs took shape, she would send clips to Herman, who would listen on repeat in her studio, on the subway, or under the trees. Both artists exchanged inspiration and ideas for several months as the album developed. Fisher recorded the songs in Berlin, Paris, Los Angeles, and upstate New York, and with each new iteration, Herman absorbed every sound. At the end of 2022, the songs crystallized, and paintings emerged.

Pensées releases digitally on the 3rd of November, featuring artwork by American visual artist Colleen Herman, and will be accompanied by a series of exhibitions and live performances. An art book, sheet music, and a limited vinyl edition will be announced too.

Pensée i is the first single off this multidisciplinary project, and will be available on streaming platforms on the 8th of September.
